Punjab Police deport gangster Gurwinder from Ethiopia after 10-month manhunt
The accused is allegedly a key kingpin of the Doni Bal-Prabh Dassuwal gang.
Punjab Police have brought back wanted gangster Gurwinder Singh, alias Afridi, from Ethiopia following a 10-month international search under Operation SHAHID, according to Moneycontrol.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the development on Sunday, November 8. He stated that the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab led the operation in coordination with the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) of Counter Intelligence, Punjab.
Afridi is identified as a key kingpin of the Doni Bal-Prabh Dassuwal gang. Preliminary investigations suggest he allegedly directed organised criminal activities from abroad, including extortion-related firing incidents and targeted killings in Punjab.
The operation involved intelligence gathering and surveillance across several countries in Africa, Asia, and South America. The DGP noted that the Ministry of External Affairs and other central agencies supported the effort.
The Punjab government had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information that would lead to the arrest of the gangster. Afridi arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport early Sunday and is being transported to Punjab by an AGTF team.
Further investigations are expected to identify the wider network linked to the gang and establish the extent of his alleged involvement in crime.
