The teenage batter will lead the senior team for the first time during the opening two matches of the tournament.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named captain of the Bihar senior team for the opening two matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, according to The Hindu. The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) announced the 17-member squad on Friday, November 6, with Suraj Kashyap appointed as vice-captain.

Bihar will begin their Group B campaign against Saurashtra on November 14 in Indore. The state is grouped alongside Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Railways, Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Sooryavanshi is expected to play the matches against Saurashtra and Railways before joining the India A squad for the ACC Men's Asia Cup Rising Stars 2026 in Doha from November 19 to 29.

The left-hander was the Orange Cap winner of the IPL 2026, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings. He also recently scored 45 runs off 19 balls in the third T20 International against New Zealand.

The selection of Mangal Mahour and Shakib Hussain remains subject to fitness assessments following the first two matches. The 17-member squad includes Alok Kumar, Ayush Loharuka, Altamash Ashraf, Param Kumar Singh, Anmol Kumar, Ritwik Raj, Mayank Kumar, Raghvendra Pratap, Ashish Kumar, Vasudev Pratap Singh, Mohammad Izhar, Amod Yadav, Prashant Singh, Nawaz Khan and Himanshu Singh.
