Over 150 people fall ill after eating pani puri in Siddharthnagar

More than 150 residents in Uttar Pradesh's Siddharthnagar district developed symptoms of food poisoning after consuming snacks from a local vendor.

More than 150 people, including several children, fell ill after eating pani puri from a vendor in Uttar Pradesh's Siddharthnagar district, according to reports by India Today and Siasat.

The incident occurred in Kalanakhor Pedari village and two to three nearby villages under the Khesraha police station area during Diwali festivities.

Patients developed symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea two days after consuming the food. An Emergency Duty Doctor stated that between 30 and 33 patients had been admitted to the emergency department so far.

The doctor noted that 18 children were admitted to the PICU, while 15 patients were over the age of 15. Although two or three patients were in serious condition, the doctor said they are now stable.

Medical professionals suspect that spoiled food or contaminated water may have caused the outbreak, though the exact cause is not yet established. The doctor said they are awaiting investigation and test results to confirm the source.

The hospital is currently treating patients, and medical staff expect more people to arrive by bus.
