Assam CM directs ministers to inform local MLAs before constituency visits

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued the directive following a controversy involving Cabinet Minister Biswajit Daimary in Tinsukia district.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed all state ministers to provide advance notice to local MLAs before visiting their constituencies, according to the Free Press Journal.

The Chief Minister's Office issued the order on October 30 after noting that elected representatives were not always notified or included during various ministerial field visits.

The directive states that even if an MLA's presence is not needed for official reviews or departmental meetings, they should be told about the visit politely.

The order suggests that ministers can also invite local legislators to join them at official functions and public programmes to improve government coordination.

The move follows a recent incident where Cabinet Minister Biswajit Daimary visited Tinsukia district, including Kakopathar, without the participation of local MLAs Pulak Gohain and Sanjay Kisan.

On October 27, Daimary attended a Matak Yuva Chhatra Sanmilan event in Dirak Nawajyoti village, where his comments on the ULFA issue led to a political controversy.
