Astronomers find possible new dwarf planet beyond Pluto
The object, named 2026 ED138, measures between 600 and 1,500 kilometres across and was identified using the Vera C. Rubin Observatory.
Astronomers have identified a large object in the outer Solar System that may become the sixth officially recognised dwarf planet, according to the Hindustan Times. The object, named 2026 ED138, was spotted by astrophysicist Matthew Holman of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics on October 13.
Holman identified the object while examining data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile. He used software created with colleague Kevin Napier to find moving objects among astronomical detections.
