Modi congratulates ISRO on successful NVS-03 satellite launch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the mission is an important step towards strengthening the indigenous NavIC satellite navigation system.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated scientists and engineers at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) following the successful launch of the GSLV-F18 rocket carrying the NVS-03 satellite. The launch took place at 11:51 pm on Friday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the mission marks an important step in strengthening NavIC, India's indigenous satellite navigation system. He added that the satellite, equipped with enhanced capabilities, will further the pursuit of self-reliance in critical technologies.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also lauded the ISRO team, stating the successful mission is a moment of honour for the nation. He noted that NVS-03 will enhance services in sectors including aviation, maritime navigation, transportation, monitoring, and emergency response.
The 2,232-kg NVS-03 is the third satellite in the second-generation NVS series. It carries an indigenous atomic clock along with procured atomic clocks and incorporates the L1 navigation signal in addition to existing L5 and S signals.
The launch restored India's independent regional navigation satellite system, NavIC, to its minimum operational configuration of four satellites. The satellite is intended to augment the constellation and ensure the continuity of navigation services.
