Cyclone Murasu forms in Bay of Bengal after Cyclone Arnab
The India Meteorological Department expects the storm to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3.
A new cyclonic storm named Murasu has formed in the Bay of Bengal, according to reports from The Hindu and The Indian Express. This development comes less than a week after Cyclone Arnab hit the coasts of Andhra Pradesh.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the system, which means 'war drum' in Tamil, is expected to strengthen into a deep depression during the early hours of Sunday. It is predicted to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast by the evening of November 2.
The IMD expects the system to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur as a severe cyclonic storm on November 3. Wind speeds are forecast to be between 100 and 110 km per hour, with gusts reaching 120 km per hour.
The weather agency warned that Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema could experience very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall of 115mm to 200mm or more within 24 hours on November 2 and 3.
On Saturday, a well-marked low pressure area had developed in the southeast Bay of Bengal near the Andaman and Nicobar islands. This system later intensified into a depression before moving west-northwestwards.
