Bengaluru police issue 19-point safety advisory for Deepavali celebrations
Authorities warned of legal action against those violating cracker timings or safety regulations during the festival.
Bengaluru police have released a 19-point advisory to ensure safe and eco-friendly Deepavali celebrations. The guidelines include warnings of legal action for anyone who violates prescribed timings or safety rules.
The advisory states that the public should use only certified green crackers. In line with Supreme Court directions, crackers must be burst only between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
People are cautioned against lighting crackers near hospitals, petrol pumps, gas stations, religious sites, old-age homes, and childcare centres. The police also advised avoiding main roads, crowded areas, and parked vehicles, suggesting the use of open grounds instead.
The guidelines instruct citizens to collect cracker remains in a bucket and extinguish them with sand or water. People must also ensure animals are not harmed and maintain cleanliness in public spaces.
Violators may face legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Explosives Act 1884, and pollution control laws. The police have asked the public to report illegal sales or violations to local stations.
Separately, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will run 2,600 extra buses from Bengaluru between November 6 and 8. These services will connect coastal Karnataka, Malnad, North Karnataka, and states including Hyderabad, Tirupati, Tamil Nadu, and Keralam.
