BJP calls Musi Project public hearing a farce

Hyderabad BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao demanded dialogue with displaced families and warned against house demolitions without proper resettlement.

BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao described the public hearing for the Musi Rejuvenation Project as a farce on Friday, according to The Hindu.

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Rao alleged that people most likely to be impacted by the project were not included in the consultation process. He claimed ex-servicemen from the Madhu Park area were prevented from entering a meeting held by Musi Riverfront Corporation officials near Himayatsagar on October 28.

Rao demanded the government hold a Praja Darbar with affected residents and stated the party would oppose any demolitions lacking sufficient compensation and rehabilitation. He suggested scientific methods could restore the Musi River without causing large-scale displacement.

The BJP leader alleged the previous BRS government released only ₹3 crore of an estimated ₹750 crore allocated for the Musi Corporation. He further claimed the Congress government is projecting costs of thousands of crores without a detailed project report or clear budget outlines.

Rao also addressed university contract teachers, demanding they be absorbed into service with UGC pay scales and Seventh Pay Revision Commission benefits before new recruitment begins. He noted that electoral roll objections could be handled through Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Agents.

Additionally, Rao announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Hyderabad on November 2. Shah is scheduled to join a Maha Padayatra and address a public meeting to counter Congress misinformation regarding electoral roll revisions.
