Centre approves Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road projects in Kerala

Construction for the 486.33 km road development work is scheduled to begin in December, according to Public Works Minister P K Basheer.

The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road development projects in Kerala, according to a report by ThePrint.

Public Works Minister P K Basheer said on Saturday that the funds were allocated under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. The projects involve the development of 486.33 km of roads and are expected to start in December.

Of the total amount, Rs 570 crore is designated for projects in the Malabar region. This includes 21 projects located in the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram.

Basheer stated that the approval came after talks with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The works will encompass various types of roads, including corporation, ordinary district, and major district roads.

The state government has already provided administrative sanction for these works. Basheer added that technical and financial clearances will be finished within the required timeframe to meet the December construction start date.

The roads will be built following National Highway standards. Once finished, the projects are intended to strengthen state connectivity and improve the quality of urban and rural roads.
