Empowering Anganwadi workers is key to strengthening grassroots service delivery, says Gupta

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta spoke at a programme in Rohini held as part of the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah.

Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said on Saturday that empowering Anganwadi workers is necessary to strengthen grassroots service delivery. He made these remarks at a programme held at Aggarwal Dharamshala in Rohini during the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah.

Gupta described Anganwadi workers as a vital link between government welfare programmes and the families they serve. He stated that their contribution must be recognised through meaningful support to make their daily responsibilities easier.

The programme was organised under the theme “Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Jimmedari” (Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility). It aimed to transform Anganwadi Centres into community-owned hubs for nutrition, family welfare and early childhood development.

During the event, bags and essential kits were distributed to Anganwadi workers. The distribution was intended to ease their day-to-day responsibilities, such as community outreach, awareness campaigns and household visits.

Gupta noted that frontline workers serve as the first point of contact for families requiring nutritional assistance, young children and expectant mothers. He said that improving nutritional outcomes requires close coordination between local communities, families and frontline workers.

The Speaker also underscored that the fight against malnutrition requires government intervention alongside sustained public participation. He added that providing workers with institutional support and adequate resources is essential to improving the effectiveness of welfare programmes.
