Delhi government mandates registration for domestic help agencies

Placement agencies must obtain licenses on the e-District portal or face a ₹50,000 fine, according to a labour department notice.

The Delhi government has made it compulsory for all private placement agencies providing domestic help to register with the authorities, according to a report by Hindustan Times on Saturday.

A public notice from the labour department states that these agencies must secure a license via the e-District portal within 15 days.

The registration process requires mandatory police verification for both the employer and the domestic worker.

Failure to comply with the executive order dated September 25, 2014, will result in a ₹50,000 penalty, prosecution, and the cancellation of licenses and registration.

The labour department notified the Delhi Private Placement Agencies Order in compliance with High Court orders to prevent the exploitation of domestic workers.

Under the order, payments to domestic workers must be made through bank accounts, and the Child Welfare Committee and Delhi Commission for Women have adjudication powers regarding the employment of women and children.
