Eradicating corruption is a collective responsibility, says Upa Lokayukta B. Veerappa

Justice B. Veerappa stated that every individual must resolve to eliminate corruption to make India a powerful nation.

Speaking in Belagavi on Friday, Karnataka Upa Lokayukta Justice B. Veerappa said that it is impossible to eradicate corruption solely through the Lokayukta or other institutions. According to The Hindu, he stated that every individual in society must resolve to eliminate it.

The Upa Lokayukta was speaking after inaugurating a pending cases disposal camp for the Belagavi and Bailhongal subdivisions at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. He noted that society is responsible for the rise in educated fraudsters and that people accept money for votes during elections.

Justice Veerappa said that society and families should socially boycott those who engage in corruption. He added that if corruption is eradicated, India will become a powerful nation.

The Upa Lokayukta mentioned that the government has issued an order to allot housing sites to all ex-servicemen and their legal heirs following a year and a half of advocacy by the Lokayukta. He said the distribution must be carried out on a war footing.

He expressed concern that the filing of false cases by proxies is delaying the adjudication of genuine matters. Justice Veerappa warned that complainants filing false cases against government officials could face up to three years of imprisonment.

The Upa Lokayukta said the Lokayukta has the authority to take strict action against negligent officials. He advised officials to perform their work with diligence, caution, and integrity.
