Karnataka Congress expels Kripa Alva for six years
The former general secretary was removed following her alleged role in a sting operation involving party leaders.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has expelled former general secretary Kripa Alva for six years with immediate effect. According to The Indian Express, the decision follows her suspected participation in a sting operation aimed at state Congress leaders.
KPCC Vice-President M Narayanaswamy issued the expulsion order, stating the controversy caused embarrassment to the party through negative media coverage. The order noted that Alva's conduct amounted to anti-party activities and was issued on the instructions of the KPCC President.
A show-cause notice was previously sent to Alva seeking an explanation, but she has not provided a response. Alva, a spokesperson from Mangaluru, appeared before the Crime Branch for questioning on Sunday.
Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah named Alva as being behind a defamatory video. He has obtained a court injunction to prevent media houses from airing or publishing the footage.
Bengaluru police investigated the video and stated on Thursday that allegations of sexual abuse within the content are part of a fabricated narrative. The police said collected evidence does not substantiate the incidents mentioned in the video.
Minister Yathindra, the son of Siddaramaiah, alleged that a woman leader orchestrated the sting to secure a party ticket for the Puttur constituency.
