Karnataka milk prices rise as government faces financial pressure

The state Cabinet approved an increase of ₹8 per litre for Nandini milk to manage the cost of government guarantee schemes.

The Karnataka state Cabinet last week approved an increase in Nandini milk prices from ₹46 to ₹54 per litre, according to The Economic Times.

The ₹8 per litre hike follows financial strain caused by the government's five guarantee schemes, which the state estimates will cost ₹51,000 crore this year.

The government stated that the price increase will raise the income of farmers. However, the Opposition has claimed the move will increase the cost of living for citizens.

BJP leader CT Ravi told The Economic Times that the Congress government has pushed ordinary people into greater financial distress while attempting to fulfil its five guarantees.
