BJP slams INDIA bloc over mock Parliament session in New Delhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party accused Opposition parties of ridiculing democratic institutions during a mock impeachment of the Chief Election Commissioner.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday accused the Congress and its allies of mocking democratic institutions by staging a mock Parliament session. The session, held at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s New Delhi residence, involved a symbolic public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The INDIA bloc leaders alleged that Kumar enabled vote theft and disenfranchised millions through a flawed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi stated that Kumar is the first target and claimed the BJP is using him as an instrument.

The mock session passed an impeachment resolution moved by Kharge, which included charges such as conspiring to steal elections and deleting 13.2 crore voters. It also alleged that Form 6 was rewritten without oversight and that the CEC acted at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

BJP MP Sambit Patra responded by saying that if 38 lakh booth-level agents had worked properly, the mock session would not have been necessary. He denied that any votes were stolen, stating that 2.8 crore names were removed due to death and nearly 1 crore duplicate entries were deleted.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also criticised the Opposition, claiming they chose to hold a rally on a day associated with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Addressing a gathering in Chandigarh on Sunday, Shah said Rahul Gandhi could remain in a mock Parliament for the rest of his life.
