Manipur CM says community-centric ideas cannot bring peace
Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh stressed the need for national unity during a National Unity Day event in Imphal on Saturday.
Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh stated on Saturday that community-centric ideas are unable to foster a peaceful atmosphere or economic progress in the state.
Speaking at a National Unity Day event in Imphal, Singh emphasised the importance of strengthening unity across the country.
The Chief Minister noted that a state cannot be governed by focusing solely on the interests of a single community.
Singh highlighted the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, noting his efforts in integrating over 560 princely states into the Union of India following independence.
The event commemorates the birth anniversary of the first home minister, which the Union government has observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas since 2014.
The remarks come as Manipur experiences ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023, and clashes between Kukis and Nagas since February.
