Chief Minister Manik Saha paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme in Agartala on Saturday.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Saturday at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme in Agartala. The event, held at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, marked the 151st birth anniversary of Patel.

Saha described Patel as a symbol of national solidarity and integrity. He noted that Patel was known as the Iron Man of India for his steadfastness and played a significant role in preserving the country's unity after Independence.

The Chief Minister stated that Patel integrated 562 princely states into India between 1947 and 1949. He said this difficult task was achieved through the decisive steps taken by Patel.

The programme included the reading of a pledge and a Unity Run that started at Swami Vivekananda Maidan and ended at Umakanta Mini Stadium. Saha mentioned that Rashtriya Ekta Diwas has been celebrated nationwide since October 31, 2014, to honour Patel's path.

Saha said the celebration aims to bolster national unity and encourage citizens to safeguard the country's integrity. He added that India's strength lies in its unity despite diverse languages and cultures.

The event was attended by Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, MLA Minarani Sarkar, and several other officials, including West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar.
