Shah Rukh Khan film King sells overseas rights for ₹175 crore

Phars Films has reportedly acquired the international distribution rights for the film under a minimum guarantee deal.

Phars Films has reportedly acquired the overseas theatrical rights for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer King for a minimum guarantee of ₹175 crore, according to reports by Hindustan Times and Outlook.

The deal sets a new record for Indian cinema, as no Indian film has previously reached the ₹100 crore mark for overseas rights.

The Dubai-headquartered Phars Films takes over international distribution duties from Yash Raj Films, which was originally slated to handle the title worldwide.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24.

To break even, the film would need to earn approximately $37–40 million, or around ₹350–375 crore gross internationally, because distributors typically receive 50 per cent of the box office gross.

King stars Shah Rukh Khan alongside Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal, and Saurabh Shukla.
