Three Kuki community members killed in Manipur gunfight

The deceased were identified as village volunteers following an exchange of fire in Noney district on Saturday morning.

Three people from the Kuki community died during a gunfight between rival armed groups in Manipur's Noney district on Saturday, according to The Hindu.

The incident occurred at Kekru Naga village on the morning of October 31. The exchange of fire lasted for several hours in the forested hill village.

A police officer identified the deceased as Thanglensang Singson, Thangkhosei Haokip, and Lamminsang Kipgen. The three men were from interior parts of Henglep and Thanlon in Churachandpur district.

Kuki civil organisations described the deceased as village volunteers. Police stated that necessary security measures have been implemented in the area.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), which is the apex body of the Kuki community, issued a statement condemning the deaths. KIM alleged that Naga militant groups were responsible for the killings.

The organisation has demanded accountability, justice, and immediate action from the state government.
