Truck driver asked if he was Bangladeshi at West Bengal toll plaza

Rafikul Khan, a driver from Narayanpur, was allegedly questioned about his nationality after requesting to speak in Bengali at a toll plaza.

An Indian Muslim truck driver was allegedly asked if he was a Bangladeshi at the Shibpur toll plaza on National Highway 12 on October 26, according to Siasat.

The incident took place in Murshidabad district when Rafikul Khan, from Narayanpur, stopped to pay the toll while transporting bananas from Karimpur towards Siliguri.

Khan stated that when he requested to speak in Bengali, the toll plaza employee allegedly asked if he was from outside India or if he was a Bangladeshi.

Khan responded by questioning why Hindi was being spoken in West Bengal and told the employee to report the matter.

The driver also expressed frustration regarding his vehicle being held at the location for half an hour, stating he would proceed to Katai.
