Delhi BJP to hold protest march against Congress rally

The protest in Hari Nagar will be led by Nitin Nabin and Hardeep Singh Puri on November 1.

The Delhi BJP, alongside members of Sikh community organisations, will hold a protest march in Hari Nagar, West Delhi, on November 1, according to The Tribune. The march is being held in response to a Congress rally scheduled in the capital on the same day.

Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra said the march was being organised because Sikh families, community members, and institutions impacted by the 1984 violence requested it. He alleged that the Congress party hurt Sikh sentiments by choosing the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots for their event.

The protest will be led by party national president Nitin Nabin and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The BJP expects thousands of members of the Sikh community to attend the march.

Malhotra alleged that Congress workers were responsible for the looting, burning, and killings during the 1984 riots. He stated that the community wants an apology from the Congress before the party uses the November 1 rally to relaunch Rahul Gandhi politically.

Malhotra also criticised the Congress for holding the rally during Diwali week. He claimed traders fear business losses from traffic congestion and noted that pollution-control restrictions for vehicles below BS-VI standards will begin in Delhi on November 1.
