Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya called for increased opportunities for young people in sectors including education, skill development, agriculture, tourism and entrepreneurship. He spoke at a foundation day celebration held at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium in Guwahati on October 31, according to The News Mill.

The event, organised by Lok Bhavan Assam, celebrated the foundation days of Haryana, Kerala, Punjab, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Delhi. Acharya said the traditions and socio-economic contributions of these regions have enriched India’s identity.

The governor paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary, noting his role in integrating princely states after Independence. He stated that Patel’s ideals continue to inspire national consciousness and a shared sense of purpose.

Acharya mentioned that the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, provides a platform to understand different languages, arts and cultures. He said that respecting diversity strengthens national integration.

Referring to the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, the governor said Assam and the Northeast have an important role to play. He noted that improved connectivity, infrastructure, education and healthcare are strengthening the region’s development potential.

Acharya stressed that development should ensure dignity, equal opportunities and greater participation by women and youth. He also highlighted the importance of preserving the state's cultural heritage, such as Vaishnavite traditions, satras and tea gardens.
