CBI takes over investigation into missing Tripura State Rifles personnel
The Central Bureau of Investigation will probe the 2012 disappearance of Subhash Chandra Bose, a rifleman from Ernakulam district.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has assumed responsibility for investigating the disappearance of Subhash Chandra Bose, a 27-year-old man from Ernakulam. Bose, a rifleman with the Third Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles, went missing while travelling by train in April 2012.
The takeover follows a direction from the Kerala High Court issued last month. This order came after a petition was filed by Bose's father, P K Balan. The CBI Special Crime Branch filed a re-registered FIR before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on October 28, officials said on Sunday.
Bose was returning to his workplace in Tripura after leave when he disappeared. He boarded the Ernakulam-Guwahati Express at Ernakulam Junction at 9.20 pm on April 3, 2012, using a general ticket.
Bose spoke to his mother on April 4, stating he had reached Andhra Pradesh. He called again on April 5, mentioning his mobile recharge was low, and said he would contact his family after reaching work. He did not call again.
The family discovered Bose had not reported for duty in Dhalai district on April 10, 2012. Balan filed a complaint at the Ernakulam Railway Police Station on April 13, leading to a missing-person case.
Railway police previously identified Visakhapatnam Railway Station as the location where Bose was last seen alive. The High Court directed the CBI to investigate both the Ernakulam Railway Police case and the Visakhapatnam Government Railway Police case.
