CBI takes over probe into 2012 disappearance of Tripura rifleman

The agency will investigate two missing-person cases following a Kerala High Court order regarding the disappearance of Subhash Chandra Bose.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the probe into the 2012 disappearance of a 27-year-old Tripura State Rifles personnel, according to India Today.

Subhash Chandra Bose, a rifleman with the Third Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles, went missing while travelling by train in April 2012. The Kerala High Court transferred the case to the CBI last month after a petition was filed by his father, P K Balan.

Bose boarded the Ernakulam-Guwahati Express at Ernakulam Junction at 9.20 pm on April 3, 2012, while returning to his workplace in Tripura. He was travelling with a general ticket and had told his father he would try to arrange a seat with the travelling ticket examiner.

Bose spoke to his mother on April 4 and again on April 5, stating he had reached Andhra Pradesh and that his mobile balance was low. He did not call again after saying he would contact his family once he reached his workplace.

The family discovered Bose had not reported for duty in Tripura's Dhalai district on April 10, 2012. Balan lodged a complaint at the Ernakulam Railway Police Station on April 13, leading to a missing-person case.

The CBI's Special Crime Branch filed a fresh FIR before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on October 28. The agency has been directed to investigate both the Ernakulam Railway Police case and the case registered by the Government Railway Police in Visakhapatnam.
