Andhra Pradesh braces for Cyclonic Storm Murasu after Cyclone Arnab
Five districts in Andhra Pradesh are on red alert as a new cyclonic storm approaches the coast.
Andhra Pradesh is preparing for Cyclonic Storm Murasu, which is expected to approach the coast by November 2, according to reports from The Indian Express and The Hindu. This follows the recent impact of Cyclone Arnab, which crossed the coast on October 28.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the system developed from a low-pressure area near the Andaman and Nicobar islands. It is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur during the early hours of November 3.
The IMD expects the storm to bring wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph, with gusts reaching 120 kmph. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) noted that central and southern coastal regions are likely to be affected this time.
Five districts, including SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Bapatla, and Krishna, have been placed on red alert for November 2. In these areas, officials expect isolated extremely heavy rainfall. Nine mandals in Eluru, five in Krishna, five in NTR, and one in Bapatla are predicted to see very heavy to extremely heavy rain.
The storm is also expected to impact Tamil Nadu, with heavy rain forecast for Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, and Nilgiris districts. Odisha is also bracing for heavy rainfall in its southern coastal districts.
