IAF Chief Dixit outlines VAYU vision for operational readiness
Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit prioritises combat strength, self-reliance, and tri-services synergy under his new framework.
Newly appointed Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit on Sunday outlined his priorities for the Indian Air Force under the acronym VAYU, according to The Hindu. The framework focuses on vigilance, self-reliance, innovation, and unity of effort.
Dixit assumed charge as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff on Saturday, succeeding Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. He stated that restoring the force's combat strength to its sanctioned level would be among his foremost priorities.
Under the VAYU framework, 'V' stands for vigilance and readiness, requiring every squadron, radar, and air defence unit to be prepared to respond at a moment's notice. 'A' represents Aatmanirbharta, or self-reliance, with a focus on indigenous platforms like the Tejas Mk1A and Mk2, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, and Indian sensors and weapons.
'Y' stands for Yukti, or ingenuity, which emphasises innovation in technology, doctrine, and procedures, including AI-enabled command and control and layered counter-drone defence. 'U' represents unity of effort, highlighting the importance of joint planning with the Army, Navy, and national agencies.
The Air Chief noted that the character of warfare is being reshaped by emerging technologies such as drones, space, cyber, and artificial intelligence. He said the Air Force must transform into the force India needs in the next decade while remaining ready to fight and win.
Dixit also stated that the training, morale, and welfare of Air Warriors, Agniveervayu, civilian employees, and veterans would receive his personal attention.
