Jammu Airport starts consultations to launch international flight operations

Airport Director Devender Yadav chaired a meeting with stakeholders to discuss the feasibility and roadmap for global air connectivity in the region.

Jammu Airport has begun consultations with various stakeholders to evaluate the preparedness and feasibility of starting international flight operations, according to the Kashmir Observer on Sunday.

Airport Director Devender Yadav chaired a planning and coordination meeting on Saturday involving airlines, security agencies, regulatory bodies, and tourism organisations. The discussions covered potential destinations, passenger demand, and operational requirements.

Yadav stated that the existing terminal building will be used for international flights once domestic operations move to the new terminal building. He also noted that the airport is included under the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Hub-and-Spoke Model.

Rahul Sahai, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Jammu Chamber, said international sectors should be commercially viable. He suggested prioritising connectivity to West Asia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Europe due to demand from Umrah travel and education.

Rajesh Gupta, Chairman of the Tourism Federation of Jammu, said the initiative could boost the tourism sector and facilitate trade. The meeting also examined requirements for immigration, customs, security, and coordination with the Indian Air Force.

The initiative to strengthen international connectivity remains subject to operational readiness, stakeholder concurrence, and requisite approvals.
