LG Manoj Sinha inaugurates 1,416 flats for Kashmiri Pandit employees

The Lieutenant Governor stated that the return of Kashmiri Pandits is essential to restoring the historical heritage of the Valley.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated 1,416 residential flats for migrant Kashmiri Pandit PM Package employees at three locations in the Kashmir Valley. The complexes are located at Zewan in Srinagar, Kakan Maran in Budgam, and Kulangam Bagh in Kupwara, according to The New Indian Express.

Sinha said that Kashmir is missing a vital part of its soul without Kashmiri Pandits. He stated that the dignified return of these families is necessary to restore the historical heritage and human dignity of the region.

The Zewan complex is the largest, containing 936 flats across 39 blocks. The Kakan Maran complex in Budgam has 192 flats, while the Kulangam Bagh complex in Kupwara consists of 288 flats.

The broader transit accommodation project includes 6,000 sanctioned flats across 20 locations in 10 districts. Of these, more than 5,200 flats have been built and over 3,800 have been allotted.

PM Package employee Vicky Kaav said the accommodation provides relief to staff who have been waiting for government housing since 2010. Another employee, Sushil Raina, said the development would allow families to join employees in the Valley within a secure environment.

Security arrangements involving police and paramilitary personnel have been established around the Zewan residential complex.
