LG Manoj Sinha inaugurates 1,416 flats for PM Package employees in Kashmir

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the return of Kashmiri Pandits is essential to restoring the region's historical heritage.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated 1,416 residential flats for migrant Kashmiri Pandit PM Package employees at three locations in the Valley. According to The New Indian Express, the flats were inaugurated at Zewan on the outskirts of Srinagar, while complexes at Kakan Maran in Budgam and Kulangam Bagh in Kupwara were opened through virtual mode.

Sinha stated that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits and that their dignified return is necessary to restore the historical heritage and human dignity of the region. He noted that the cultural and spiritual splendour of Kashmir cannot be imagined without their contributions.

The transit accommodation project includes 6,000 flats across 342 blocks at 20 locations in 10 districts. Of the sanctioned flats, over 5,200 have been built and more than 3,800 have been allotted. The Zewan complex is the largest, containing 936 flats across 39 blocks.

The Kulangam Bagh complex in Kupwara has 288 flats across 18 blocks, and the Kakan Maran complex in Budgam has 192 flats across 12 blocks. Additional Chief Secretary (Public Works R&B) Anil Kumar Singh stated that the remaining flats will be finished by December this year.

PM Package employee Sushil Raina, who was allotted a flat at Zewan, said the development would allow families to join employees in a secure environment. Another employee, Vicky Kaav, said the accommodation provides relief to those who have been waiting for government housing since 2010.
