Four die of suspected suffocation in Ujjain hotel waste chamber
Two other people fell ill while attempting to rescue the workers from the food waste tank on Saturday night.
Four people died of suspected suffocation after entering a waste chamber at Shri Ganga Hotel in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district on Saturday night. The incident took place at approximately 11 pm on the Ujjain-Dewas road, police said on Sunday.
Ujjain Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said the workers may have collapsed due to gas exposure inside the chamber. He added that the gas might have also made the floor slippery, causing those inside to fall.
Three of the deceased have been identified as Kamlesh Tamboli, Nitin Wahid, and Manoj Meena. Police reached the spot, removed the four individuals from the chamber, and performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), but doctors later declared them dead at a hospital.
Two other people who entered the chamber to try and rescue the workers fell ill and were admitted to a local hospital. Ujjain District Collector Raushan Kumar Singh stated that two individuals initially entered the tank, and two more entered later in an attempt to save them.
District Magistrate Roshan Kumar Singh said the administration will investigate if the workers entered the chamber for cleaning or accidentally fell into it. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
