Navy seismic life detection unit deployed to find landslide survivors

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said rescue operations have been intensified in Kandhamal district following landslides.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday that an advanced seismic life detection unit from the Indian Navy has been flown to the G Udayagiri landslide site in Kandhamal district. According to The New Indian Express, the unit uses specialised sensors and scanning technology to identify biological signals under mud and debris.

The Chief Minister met with officials at the special relief commissioner office in Bhubaneswar to review rescue efforts in south Odisha. He stated that coordinated work is underway to find missing persons and restore essential services in the landslide-hit areas and districts affected by cyclone Arnab.

Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, Fire Services, and Special Operations Group are working in the affected zones. The Indian Navy is also being involved to support these search efforts.

The state government has requested help from the Railways to use a chain pulley system for evacuating people from inaccessible locations. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari discussed this with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and East Coast Railway has begun steps to send the equipment.

Majhi directed officials to restore electricity and road connectivity on a war footing. He also instructed departments to remain alert for another possible cyclone in the Bay of Bengal by preparing shelters and maintaining stocks of food and medicine.
