New ₹3.85 crore bridge near Sholinghur to open by December

The high-level bridge across the Rendadi Water Supply Channel will replace a British-era causeway damaged during the 2021 floods.

A new ₹3.85 crore high-level bridge near Sholinghur in Ranipet district will be opened for public use by December this year, according to The Hindu.

The 38-metre long and 7.5-metre wide bridge spans the Rendadi Water Supply Channel at Sekkadikuppam village. It will replace a British-era causeway that was damaged during the 2021 floods.

The bridge, funded under the State Special Assistance Scheme for 2025-26, is built at least three metres above the water channel. It can discharge around 30,000 cusecs of water per second.

S. Kannan, Assistant Engineer of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Sholinghur, said the bridge will help farmers transport products to markets and allow buses to reach remote villages.

The facility will connect surrounding villages to towns including Sholinghur, Arakkonam, Tiruvallur, and Tiruttani. It will end a detour of at least eight km for residents to reach nearby towns.

Collector N. Priya Ravichandran inspected the construction site on Saturday alongside DRDA Project Director S. Selvarani and Executive Engineer Prabhakaran.
