Polling suspended in Vijayawada after ballot symbol error
Election officials halted voting in the 55th division after the symbols for two candidates were interchanged on the ballot paper.
Polling was suspended in the 55th division of the Vijayawada West Assembly constituency during the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections after a ballot symbol mix-up occurred at Old Rajarajeswaripeta.
The error involved the interchange of election symbols for two candidates. The Congress Party symbol was printed next to YSR Congress candidate Sheikh Hasan Basha, while the fan symbol was placed next to Congress candidate Shareef Sheikh.
YSR Congress candidate Sheikh Hasan Basha filed a complaint with Returning Officer Chakravarthy, alleging that the symbols had been swapped on the ballot paper.
Following the complaint, authorities stopped voting in the 55th division. Polling is expected to restart after a gap of approximately two hours once new ballot papers are printed.
