Speculation grows over Dhanush entering Tamil Nadu politics after Vijay's win
Political parties react to rumours as actor Dhanush's fan club rebrands and holds large welfare meetings.
Actor Dhanush has not officially confirmed any plans to enter politics, despite increasing speculation following the political success of actor Vijay, according to The Statesman. While no party name or flag has been launched by the actor or his team, recent activities by his supporters have drawn attention from various political groups.
The buzz intensified after Dhanush's fan club unveiled a flag in July and rebranded itself as the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam, or Dhanush Welfare Movement. On Sunday, October 26, approximately 3,000 members attended a women's wing meeting at a college in Thoraipakkam, near Chennai, where the actor spent four hours.
During the event, images showed Dhanush in a dhoti and shirt, and attendees received silver lamps engraved with a lotus motif. This symbol led to claims from rivals, though Dhanush avoided direct questions about politics when leaving the venue, offering only Diwali greetings instead.
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has attempted to downplay the actor's potential entry. TVK General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna suggested that new political entrants are being directed by senior leaders in Delhi, while Finance Minister N Marie Wilson stated that Dhanush could not compete with Chief Minister Vijay due to the latter's years of groundwork.
Tamil Nadu Congress chief B Manickam Tagore also commented on the situation, alleging that the BJP and RSS are executing a strategy he referred to as "Operation D" or "Plan C".
