Pudukottai college exam postponed for Chief Minister's visit

The postponement of semester examinations at Kalaignar Karunanidhi Government Arts College for Women has sparked a row in Pudukottai.

Semester examinations scheduled for November 2 at the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Government Arts College for Women in Pudukottai have been postponed. According to The Hindu, the postponement comes as Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit the town on the same day to inaugurate a new bus stand and distribute welfare measures.

College authorities stated the November 2 exams would be held on a later date, though the college office will work as usual. They said the decision was made keeping in mind the difficulty students might face in reaching the institution from the bus stand.

Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi leader T. Velmurugan expressed shock over the decision in a social media post. He said it was the government's responsibility to arrange security and transportation and stated that action affecting student education and examinations could not be accepted.

The examinations at the autonomous institution began on October 30 and are scheduled to conclude on November 19. Faculty members were informed of the postponement via a mobile messaging platform a couple of days ago.

Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development J. Mohamed Farvas said on Saturday that the Chief Minister will also distribute welfare assistance at the District Armed Reserve ground. The Minister told reporters that welfare assistance worth Rs 100 crore will be provided to 14,000 beneficiaries in the district.
