Mining transport remains stalled in Goa over truck dispute

Police escorted loaded trucks to jetties in Sanvordem on Saturday as local drivers continue to protest the use of outside vehicles.

Mining transport in Sanvordem, Goa, remained halted on Saturday following a dispute over the use of trucks from outside the village, according to Urban Acres.

Local drivers have objected to a mining firm's decision to engage external vehicles, stating that transportation will not resume unless local operators receive priority.

Police personnel were deployed along the route to prevent incidents, and DySP Nilesh Rane led a team that attempted to persuade protesters to disperse, though they refused.

While police escorted loaded trucks to nearby jetties for unloading under heavy security, no new loading or transportation took place.

The disruption began on Thursday after mining transport resumed following a long halt. A meeting held on Friday by the Sanguem deputy collector failed to resolve the issue.

Local truck owners stated that the 15-year halt in mining had left them without business and that outside trucks would reduce their earnings and available trips.
