Cyclonic storm Murasu likely to hit Andhra Pradesh coast

The India Meteorological Department predicts the storm could make landfall on November 3 with wind speeds reaching 100 kmph.

A new cyclonic storm, expected to be named Murasu, is projected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast, according to reports from The New Indian Express, Telangana Today and Hindustan Times.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that the storm is likely to hit the coastline on the morning of November 3. He noted that wind speeds could range between 80 and 90 kmph, with gusts reaching 100 kmph.

The weather system, which began as a depression over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify. The IMD indicated the system could become a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday.

In Odisha, the storm may cause significant precipitation. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in the Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the situation with officials, including Chief Secretary Sai Prasad. The Chief Minister instructed the administration to stay on high alert and advised fishermen not to go to sea due to potential gale-force winds.

The Chief Minister also directed that residents in low-lying areas be notified and that emergency toll-free numbers be provided to the public.
