Tamil Nadu orders withdrawal of 65 cases against NEET protesters
The state government will initiate legal procedures to drop charges against approximately 1,800 individuals involved in anti-NEET demonstrations.
The Tamil Nadu government has directed the withdrawal of 65 criminal cases involving roughly 1,800 people who took part in protests against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). According to The Hindu, the decision follows instructions from Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The demonstrations took place at various locations across the state between May 10 and July 31. During this period, police registered 65 cases at different stations against the participants, which are currently at various stages of legal proceedings.
An official statement noted that the Chief Minister was informed about the status and details of these cases. Following his directions, the state government reviewed the matter and ordered the necessary legal steps to withdraw all the cases.
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, which took office in May, has supported the demand to scrap the entrance exam. The government has also proposed that medical course admissions in the state be determined by Class 12 marks.
