Tiger cub from Umred-Karhandla sighted in Maharashtra's Pench Tiger Reserve

The sighting of the cub indicates natural tiger dispersal and possible wildlife corridor connectivity between the two areas.

A tiger cub born to a tigress from Umred-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary was sighted near the Chorbahuli Gate of Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on October 29, according to Telangana Today and Deccan Herald.

The cub belongs to Tigress F2 from Gothangaon. The movement suggests natural tiger dispersal and potential wildlife corridor connectivity.

Pench Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Akshay Gajbhiye said the sighting is a positive milestone for Pench and a hopeful sign for tiger conservation.

Gajbhiye stated that a potential movement route through Kuhi-Bhandara-Ramtek Paoni-Paoni Buffer-NH-44-Chorbahuli is being tentatively considered.

The official noted that it is too early to conclude if the young tiger is residing there or just passing through. He said the priority is to keep the habitat secure so the tiger can find its own territory.

The sighting highlights the importance of landscape connectivity. Officials said the development also reflects forest department efforts in the Chorbahuli wildlife range, including patrolling and habitat improvement.
