Four workers die in Ujjain hotel waste chamber
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the four deceased individuals.
Four workers died after entering a food waste chamber at Shri Ganga Hotel on the Ujjain-Dewas road in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10.30 p.m. when two workers entered the overground chamber containing leftover food and collapsed.
Ujjain Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said two additional workers entered the tank to try and save them, leading to all four deaths. He noted that the workers lacked required protective gear and that three were external hires while one was hotel staff.
The deceased have been identified as local residents Wahid Khan, 29, Nitin Binarwan, 28, and Kamlesh Tamboli, 30, along with hotel supervisor Manoj Meena, 25, from Rajasthan’s Jhalawar. Police recovered the bodies after breaking open the chamber, an effort that caused minor injuries to some people, including officers.
Officials suspect the deaths were caused by a gas leak or slippery sludge. An Ujjain Municipal Corporation health department official stated the hotel had not obtained a mandatory cleaning receipt from the civic body.
District Collector Raushan Kumar Singh said the Ujjain Police and Ujjain Municipal Corporation are investigating the matter. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed condolences and directed the state government to provide Rs 4 lakh to each victim's family.
