West Bengal notifies Group D jobs for kin of political violence victims
The state government will provide employment to one dependent family member of individuals killed in political clashes since 2001.
The West Bengal government issued a notification on Sunday to provide Group D jobs to one family member of each person killed in political violence. The decision follows an announcement made by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday in Paschim Medinipur’s Garbeta.
West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal signed the notification, which covers incidents occurring on or after January 1, 2001. These appointments will be made as a one-time exception to the standard recruitment process, with additional posts created if necessary.
To be eligible, the family's monthly income must not exceed Rs 50,000. Applications will be rejected if any family member is an income tax payer or holds regular government employment. Applicants must be Indian citizens, residents of West Bengal, and at least 18 years old as of January 1, 2026.
The scheme allows for the spouse, children, or third-gender children of the deceased to apply. If the victim was unmarried, a sibling may be considered if the parents and all other siblings were fully dependent on the deceased.
A screening committee led by the District Magistrate will review applications. This committee will also include the Superintendent of Police or the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kolkata, alongside a nominated officer from the prosecution wing.
Applicants must submit their requests to the District Magistrate where the incident occurred. Required documents include a death certificate, proof of relationship, FIR, chargesheet, and court documents to certify the cause of death.
