District administration seizes 1,400 quintals of parmal paddy in Karnal

Five trucks carrying paddy from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were intercepted outside two rice mills in the Gheer area on Sunday.

A team from the district administration seized approximately 1,400 quintals of parmal paddy from five trucks in the Gheer area on Sunday, according to The Tribune. The paddy was allegedly brought from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, defying existing bans on entry from neighbouring states.

The raid was led by Sumit Sihag, Zonal Administrator of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board and SDM Assandh, alongside the Secretary of the Kunjpura grain market. Officials found two trucks contained paddy from Bihar, while three others carried paddy from Uttar Pradesh.

During the inspection, authorities discovered 250 quintals of paddy outside one mill. In another instance, documents for three trucks belonged to one rice mill despite the vehicles being parked at a different mill.

The team has recommended registering FIRs and imposing market fees against the three rice mill owners involved. An official stated that strict action will be taken against anyone transporting paddy in violation of prescribed norms.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Anand Kumar Sharma has ordered intensified surveillance across the district, assigning SDMs to monitor paddy movement. Three nakas have been established along the Haryana-UP border for round-the-clock checks.

Dr Sharma has also ordered the physical verification of about 13,000 farmers registered on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal. Patwaris will check if these entries are genuine or if the farmers have valid reasons for not bringing their produce to grain markets.
