Delhi Traffic Police check 7,279 vehicles under GRAP restrictions

The department turned back 714 vehicles and impounded 38 during an enforcement drive on November 1, according to ANI.

Delhi Traffic Police checked 7,279 vehicles on November 1 as part of intensified enforcement under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), according to ANI.

During the drive, which lasted from 0000 hours to 2000 hours, officials turned back 714 vehicles and impounded 38. Ten vehicles were also issued challans.

The department held a meeting with police from nearby districts on Sunday to coordinate the implementation of these restrictions. Awareness efforts include using social media, radio, print media, information boards at borders, and distributing pamphlets.

On October 25, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa met virtually with officials from Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat, and Bahadurgarh. The meeting addressed traffic jams near borders, polluting vehicles, and emission standards for buses.

Delhi Traffic Police reported that over 10,000 challans for pollution and traffic violations are issued every day. Discussions also covered action against overage petrol and diesel vehicles and diverting non-Delhi bound trucks via peripheral expressways.

The Commission for Air Quality Management invoked Stage 1 of GRAP across Delhi-NCR on October 21. Under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the government will increase dust-control measures and deploy more enforcement teams.
