Max Verstappen wins Mexico City Grand Prix as Kimi Antonelli becomes champion

The Red Bull driver secured victory after Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton lost a potential one-two finish.

Max Verstappen won the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix after starting from fifth on the grid, according to The Race. The Red Bull driver managed to jump ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to secure the win.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured the World Drivers Championship during the race. Antonelli, who started in fourth, made a move on Leclerc to ensure his title celebrations occurred on the podium.

Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton lost a potential one-two finish due to on-track issues. Leclerc received a five-second penalty for cutting across the track following a fight, which allowed Verstappen to move ahead.

Mercedes driver George Russell faced a deployment shortage at the start and clipped Isack Hadjar on the opening lap. Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson was disqualified from qualifying for a technical rule breach and started the race from last place.

The race also saw Oscar Piastri receive a 10-second penalty after contact with Arvid Lindblad. Lawson had previously been handed a one-place grid drop for a collision with Verstappen during practice, for which he apologised to the driver, Sportstar reported.
