All schools in the state should consider teaching Malayalam, says C P John
Transport Minister C P John suggested that students learning Malayalam is as valid as those paying fees to study foreign languages.
Transport Minister C P John said that all schools in the state should consider teaching Malayalam to students. According to The New Indian Express, the minister made these remarks on Sunday after inaugurating the ‘Keram Keralam coconut food and product exhibition’ at the Thycaud Government UP School in Thiruvananthapuram.
John noted that students do not face difficulties in learning new languages. He stated that if children are willing to pay high fees to study foreign languages like Spanish and German, there is nothing wrong with them learning Malayalam as well.
The exhibition was organised by Malayalam Pallikkoodam at the school. Jessy Narayanan, who led the programme, said the exhibition helped children encounter over 100 Malayalam words related to the coconut tree or its products.
Cultural Affairs Minister P C Vishnunadh also attended the event to inaugurate the 70th Keralam Piravi Day celebrations of Pallikkoodam. He participated by drawing a coconut tree and writing ‘Ente Keralam’ on a cloth canvas.
The exhibition showcased various items, including sweets made from tender coconut and mats made from coconut leaves. The event was held on the sidelines of the Keralam Piravi Day celebrations.
