The blast occurred on Monday when a JCB machine damaged an underground gas line during drain construction work in Bihar.
At least one person died and six others were injured after an underground piped natural gas (PNG) pipeline exploded in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Monday, according to ANI.
District Magistrate (DM) Kumar Gaurav said the incident happened during excavation work for a drain being built by the Road Construction Department (RCD).
A JCB machine used for the construction work damaged the pipeline, which then caught fire and triggered a blast, the DM said.
Of the six injured people, one is in critical condition while the other five are out of danger, Gaurav said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra stated the explosion occurred between 12:10 pm and 12:15 pm. He added that a post-mortem will be conducted and an FIR will be registered if negligence is found.
The police are coordinating with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and experts from Indian Oil to manage the technical situation. A detailed inquiry will be conducted to identify those responsible, the DM said.
