China's Foreign Minister calls for political solutions in West Asia conflict

Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with an Iranian official in Beijing to advocate for dialogue and negotiation.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Monday that all parties involved in the West Asia conflict should prioritise political solutions instead of returning to armed conflict. According to The Hindu, the remarks were made during a meeting in Beijing with Ali Bagheri Kani, the Deputy Secretary of the Iran Supreme National Security Council.

Mr. Wang told Mr. Kani that negotiation and dialogue are the necessary methods to resolve the conflicts in West Asia.

He also expressed China's support for Iran in protecting its security and sovereignty.

Earlier on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with Omani leader Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said. Mr. Xi suggested that the Gulf and West Asia regions must avoid becoming sites of competition between major powers.

Following this discussion, Muscat issued a joint statement with China expressing support for Beijing's peace proposals. The Omani leader noted that the country looks forward to China playing a more significant role in establishing regional stability.

China has announced that its special envoy to West Asia will travel to Iran, Oman, and Saudi Arabia later this month.
