Supreme Leader gave government powers for US peace talks, says Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the Supreme Leader granted authorities to pursue dialogue with Washington to end the Middle East war.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has provided the government with specific powers to conduct talks with the United States. According to the Times of India, Pezeshkian told state news agency IRNA that the administration is attempting to resolve conflicts through dialogue.

The announcement follows reports from the Iranian foreign ministry that Tehran is communicating with Washington via mediators. Iran has proposed a two-day schedule to restart nuclear negotiations and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a timeline that is shorter than a previous seven-day proposal.

This plan depends on the United States meeting specific requirements from Tehran. These demands reportedly include a ceasefire covering Lebanon, the end of US sanctions on Iranian oil, the lifting of port blockades, and ensuring ships in the strait follow a route agreed upon by Iran and Oman under Iranian supervision.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the proposal serves as the foundation for mediated talks and described it as a demonstration of Iran's good-faith approach. Baghaei did not confirm if the US has accepted the terms or if Tehran's demands have changed.

In a separate development, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told the Associated Press that China will send a special envoy to Iran, Oman, and Saudi Arabia in early to mid-November. The envoy's goal is to lower regional tensions and promote stability.
