Indian Navy airlifts relief to flood-hit villages in Odisha

The Eastern Naval Command delivered 1,800 kg of supplies to Sara Bhimpur as Cyclone Arnab causes widespread flooding.

The Indian Navy has been conducting relief operations in Odisha following flooding triggered by Cyclone Arnab, according to The Hawk. The Eastern Naval Command carried out aerial missions in the Ganjam district for the second consecutive day to assist communities where roads are disrupted.

During these sorties, Navy Sea King and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) aircraft delivered approximately 1,800 kg of relief supplies to the village of Sara Bhimpur. The consignment consisted of about 1,400 kg of food items and 400 litres of drinking water.

The Indian Coast Guard also conducted rescue operations in Ganjam district on October 29. An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH Mk-III) was deployed from the Coast Guard Air Enclave in Bhubaneswar to rescue six people, including two women, two children, and an elderly person, from an inundated primary health centre.

The state government reported that Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Rayagada districts have been significantly affected by the cyclone. Ganjam is the worst-affected district with 42,564 people affected, followed by Gajapati with 30,000 and Kandhamal with 12,000.

Authorities have shifted people from vulnerable and low-lying areas to safer locations and opened relief camps to accommodate those affected by the floods.
